September Book Signings

As a book collector, attending book signings is one of my favorite past times, and I was lucky enough to attend several in September.  I thought I would share a few highlights from each.

Alexandra Bracken and The Dreadful Tale of Prosper Redding

I’ve never read Alexandra Bracken, but her Passenger and Darkest Minds series are both on my to read list.  I was particularly interested in her new book The Dreadful Tale of Prosper Redding as I’m a big fan of the supernatural, and a story about making deals with demons seems right up my ally.   Alex was funny and personable, describing how one of the character’s in Prosper was based on her own “grandmonster.”  I look forward to enjoying this spooky read as we get closer to Halloween.  For her next project, Bracken is working on the sequel to Prosper.

Marie Lu and Warcross with guest host Kiersten White

I was a big fan of Marie Lu’s Legend series, so I was excited to hear about her near-future sci-fi novel, Warcross.  I learned that Lu worked in game design once upon a time, which was part of her inspiration for the story.  Lu and guest host Kiersten White (whom I also love, check out AndI Darken), spoke a great deal about emerging technologies and exploring the idea that rapidly changing technology can sometimes have dire consequences.  I look forward to reading Warcross to get Lu’s interpretation on what a VR future could look like.  Lu’s next release is a Batman YA novel called, Nightwalker,  as part of the multi-author DC Icons series.

Kristin Cashore and Jane, Unlimited with Aditi Khorana and guest host Kiersten White

Kristin Cashore’s Graceling series is this quiet and elegant fantasy series that I absolutely adored.  Her stories are beautiful and bittersweet, and I loved reading them.   So when I heard that she was writing a new novel, I knew I had to read it.  And after hearing Cashore describe it, I want to read it even more.  In Jane, Unlimited the story breaks into 5 different plotlines, with each plotline told in a different genre: horror, fantasy, sci-fi, mystery, and thriller.  Cashore stated that she needs to challenge herself in order to write, and so she decided she wanted a structural challenge.  It’s quite an ambitious idea and one that I am so looking forward to exploring.  Cashore was joined by author Aditi Khorana, who highlighted her  most recent novel The Library of Fates, a story rife with Hindu mythology.  I’ll be adding this one to my to read list as well.
